LIQUID LIGHT: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
Many of our diehard fans know and love us for our high-performing color cosmetics in a range of bold, attention-grabbing shades. But when we launched The Everything Oil, our first skincare treatment, we knew we were onto something. To this day, it's consistently a bestseller, thanks to its acne-healing, line-smoothing, dew-ifying powers. (Yeah. It kind of does it all.)
Now we're super psyched to launch Liquid Light, our gentle yet extremely effective exfoliating hydrogel essence. This powerful treatment toner has changed our complexions, but how? And what can it do for you? Keep reading for all the details.
WHAT IS IT?
Liquid Light Exfoliating Hydrogel Essence is a treatment toner that exfoliates, plumps, and brightens to reveal smoother, softer, more radiant skin instantly and over time.
WHAT'S IN IT?
You can check out the full ingredient list here, but these are the primary workhorses of the formula:
6.25% Lactic Acid
We love exfoliating alpha hydroxy acids, or AHAs. But some of them can be so irritating. The lactic acid molecule is slightly larger, so it won’t penetrate as deeply. Translation: It’s way less likely to piss your skin off.
Natural Fruit Acid Complex
Another gentle alpha hydroxy acid that makes Liquid Light extra effective, sans irritation.
You know this one. Basically the best hydrator out there, thanks to its ability to draw up to 1,000x its weight in water into the skin.
A powerful humectant that naturally occurs in the skin. Like H.A., it helps your complexion drink in moisture—and then maintains it.
WHAT'S NOT IN IT?
Besides our usual list of suspect ingredients, we also excluded alcohol and fragrance to reduce the potential for sensitivity or irritation.
WHY DO I NEED IT?
When we're kids, our skin regenerates quickly, so it's soft and clear on its own—hence the term "baby skin." But even in our late teens and twenties, our skin regenerates less effectively. Chemical exfoliators, like the lactic acid and fruit AHAs in Liquid Light, dissolve the bonds between dead skin cells to gently slough them away, keeping your pores clearer.
Additionally, skin cells that turn over faster promote collagen and elastin production, so your skin looks younger and bouncier, too. Last but not least, the hyaluronic acid and sodium PCA in Liquid Light hydrate, plump, and soothe.

WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE?
We describe Liquid Light as a "hydrogel essence." It's a little thicker than your standard toner, but a bit thinner than a serum. It soaks in quickly and leaves behind zero residue.
WILL IT IRRITATE MY SKIN?
Skin sensitivities are so personal and unique, just about any ingredient has the potential to irritate, but especially exfoliants of any kind. That being said, we formulated Liquid Light with larger AHA molecules that penetrate less deeply and without alcohol or fragrance for a reason: so the formula is much gentler on the skin.
Due to the nature of chemical exfoliants, temporary redness and tingling after application is normal. Stinging, itching, or burning is not. If desired (and your skin tolerates it), you can increase frequency of use.
Do a patch test inside your wrist or in front of your ear before your first use. And because AHAs can increase sun sensitivity, be sure to slather on sun protection while using this product. Avoid using near the eye area, on sunburned skin, or on wounded skin.
